The word karaoke comes from the Japanese words ‘kara’ meaning ’empty’ and ‘oke’ meaning ‘orchestra’. It first became popular in English in 1979

Karaoke is a Japanese word that refers to a performance in which a person sings along with recorded music. It’s a popular form of entertainment at restaurants and clubs: amateur singers choose their favourite well-known song to sing and then perform it for the crowd.

Bon Jovi – Blaze of glory

I wake up in the morningAnd I raise my weary headI got an old coat for a pillowAnd the earth was last night’s bed
I don’t know where I’m goin’Only God knows where I’ve beenI’m a devil on the runA six gun loverA candle in the wind, yeah
You’re brought into this worldBut they say you’re born in sinWell at least they’ve given me somethingI didn’t have to steal or have to winWell, they tell me that I’m wanted
Yeah I’m a wanted manI’m colt in your stableI’m what Cain was to AbleMister catch me if you can
I’m goin’ down in a blaze of gloryTake me now but know the truthI’m goin’ down in a blaze of gloryLord I never drew firstBut I drew first bloodI’m no one’s sonCall me young gun
You ask about my conscienceAnd I offer you my soulYou ask if I’ll grow to be a wise manWell I ask if I’ll grow oldYou ask me if I known love
And what it’s like to sing songs in the rainWell, I’ve seen love comeI’ve seen it shot downI’ve seen it die in vain
Shot down in a blaze of gloryTake me now but know the truthBut I’m going down in a blaze of glory
Lord, I never drew firstBut I drew first bloodI’m a devil’s sonCall me young gun
Each night I go to bedI pray the Lord my soul to keepNo, I ain’t lookin’ for forgivenessBut before I’m six foot deepLord, I got to ask a favorAnd I’ll hope you’ll understand‘Cause I’ve lived life to the fullestLet this boy die like a manStarin’ down the bulletLet me make my final stand
Shot down in a blaze of gloryTake me now but know the truthI’m going down in a blaze of gloryLord, I never drew firstBut, I drew first bloodI’m no one’s sonCall me young gun
I’m the young gunYoung gun, yea eee yeaYoung gun

5 Tips for Singing Karaoke

Here are some other things to keep in mind about how to have a successful karaoke night:

Warm up your voice before singing so you can really hit those high notes! Follow along with this quick video on vocal warm ups for singers.
Look confident. Start with a smile and with your feet planted shoulder width apart. Make no apologies for being on that stage!
Pick a song you really know so you’re not always having to look at the lyrics on the screen. Don’t forget you have an audience that wants you to sing to them!
Use good vocal technique. Breathe low, and keep your sound placed in your mask rather than shouting into the microphone.
Practice at home! YouTube has many excellent channels, such as KaraFun, that can help you practice.
